Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the city.

Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of characters who will split off from the primary party to begin their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might appear unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, striking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in the powerful family could enable the party reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward Timmony in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Seekers and Schemers tables.

Fans can expect finding out which adventurers will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
